It's very hard for me to rate this book. I read it long ago, and I saw the 1974 movie. There is no way for me to know or remember whether I figured out "who done it."

But I love Agatha Christie (although I prefer Miss Marple to Hercule Poirot) and something about this book keeps it in print and causes it to be chosen for another movie remake. It is definitely a classic mystery that continues to affect our perception of what IS a mystery.

- I liked it overall and found the mystery enjoyable, but it didn't grip me the way some of her other books have. It's my first Poirot, so I'm not sure if the others in this series are set up this way (murder happens, Poirot sits and thinks, comes to a deduction), but the way it was crafted felt more like a puzzle to be solved, less action and intrigue. Dan Stevens' narration bumped this up a star for me, though, giving as fantastic a performance as ever. And I really enjoyed the movie adaptation as well; Kenneth Branagh is just a delight of a human being.

very good book. twists keep you guessing, but it is possible to figure it out before the end. this is my favourite agatha christie and if you have any spare time you should read it if you like mystery books. not too scary, maybe suitable 10+
