Julie says: I read this book in three evenings. I guess you could say it held my attention. It is set in Syria and the Lower East Side of New York City in 1899. We have a special order made golem, a jinni that has been trapped in a flask for 1000 years and a few wizards in the book. What's not to like! All of these characters have to interact with regular folks. The jinni works in a tinsmith's shop and has a fiery nature which can land him in trouble. The golem is of the earth, works in a bakery ...and is intensely loyal to those she cares about. Neither one needs sleep or food. The Wizards? Well, they are wizards with interesting powers that are not necessarily for anyone's good except their own. sososoni13 says: This book was amazing. The stories within the main storyline were intricate but perfectly paced. The concept is magical, but there are Important Themes about life included as well. The characters were delightful (although some credit is certainly due to the narrator, as I listened to this on audible). If you aren't absolutely repulsed by the fantasy genre (which I don't understand, but suppose must be true for some people) you'll probably enjoy this book.MoreLessRead More Read Less
Marvellous! What a hoot! The thing is, books are based from old ideas. But to find a book thats written with such understated wit! This is not an original idea. But the way it is written, its first few pages have my adrenalin going. I wish I could have a free copy
