TiddyOo says: Heart-rending story of 2 girls, Bean and Liz, whose artistic, fame-seeking mom leaves them for periods of time to "find herself." After one desertion, fearing being taken by the police, they go live with their Uncle Tinsely in Byler, the town the mother grew up in. As they get to know more about her past and also Bean's dad, who won a silver star, they begin to experience a measure of stability. While working for mill boss Jerry Maddox something happens to Liz that throws everything... out of balance. Beautifully written story of both adult abuse of power and of those who care. zbear524 says: Not sure what to rate it. It was a really entertaining book, and i love The Glass Castle which is why i gave this one a shot. i liked seeing things from Bean's point of view. She's a cute and fierce and intelligent character, especially for her age (which makes it more intriguing). I don't remember exactly all of the book because i read it a few months ago (from the school library), but i remember enjoying it. I was happy that they stood up for themselves when Jerry attacked Liz, and even though they didn't win the case Jerry got what was coming to him. It was enjoyable, but not something I'd purchase.MoreLessRead More Read Less
