I don't like this book.Evan seems like a nice enough guy even though he screws around on his job within the first week of teaching her. Admittedly yes, he met her and had s*x with her before knowing she was his student. After that, (she's hopeless really so I can't even regard her as punishable) he was aware of every decision and how it crossed professionalism and some stupid hook-up into this obsession/fetish crap. She's misguided and it really isn't fun to watch her ponder over the
...people who screwed her over and how beautiful she is. Her validation comes from the attention men shower upon her, she's jailbait and working her way round the block. There is also her slut shaming other girls and their choices of wearing lotion? Like wtf. They aren't exactly compatible. I don't see anything in their chemistry. There really is just a ton of mediocre described f*cking. I feel like she's meant to be cool in the whole 'I don't care' way, her words—not mine and the way the writing is portrayed but... She is a kid. Stop putting on grown up panties and focus on your studies and going away rather than screwing and not wanting to be your 'mother'. EditThey are both pathetic. I had to skim read. Two student/teacher relationships Evan? Seriously. No thanks. Creep. Ten years down the line maybe another 17/18 year old Irish will lure you in again. How is this guy a teacher??P.S he doesn't even go down on her. 1/5

I guess I'm the only one that's rated this 3 stars .Its not like I hate the book. I liked it in parts. I love realistic love stories and this book was no exception. But maybe it was just way too dark for me?For a debut novel it was great. I accept. Very artistic. Maisie is 18 years old and she's got a horrible home life. Her mom is a drug addict and sells drugs too. She's been tormented by assholes from when she's young by the gross men her mom brings. She's grown to keep her heart sealed and not get hurt again. While in a carnival she goes on a rollercoaster to get away from her fears and meets Evan. They don't exchange names but really like each other and hit it off. They sleep together but Evan doesn't want it to be a hook-up. He wants something more and let me say he's a hottie :) What goes on innocently really changes Maisie. She learns that you can feel something and not just have a one night stand. School starts and she walks in to see Evan standing there as the teacher. And the cliche goes the attraction is still there. They have a tumultuous relationship together . I loved the writing. Maisie feels like she's an adult and she knows everything but she's so wrong. Evan makes her feel things she thinks she could never feel and they compliment each other even though both are scarred. As their relationship progresses her relationship becomes worse with one of the best character's ever. Yea that's Wesley. He's the breath of fresh air in this otherwise dark love story. How Maisie tackles the problems in school and her relationship makes the story. Props for a good ending too. It was perfect and one of the most original YA novels out there.I loved the ending. It makes you wonder :)

It was hard to believe this book is a work of non-fiction. If it is, the teacher should have known better, and sounds like a predator. The book reads more like fiction. Hope the writer got counseling after all of her ordeals.
